Just in case you have a little man who wants to be a ninja,
or a big man who wishes he was a ninja,
whichever.

Ninja Mask Tutorial
It may surprise you, or not, that I refuse to
make my kids Halloween costumes. I just know that no matter how much time and
effort I put in my super hero will not look as authentic and amazing as the one
I buy at Wal-Mart. Like these pretty awesome ninja costumes, I could not make
these!
The only problem is that DJ's comes with a mask and Asher's does not, and that is a
problem I can fix!!
Here is my ninja mask tutorial...
First,
remember
here when I told you about all the black shirts my husband has donated to my
stash? Well I just whipped one of those out for this little project
{getting to be creative and recycle, plus its FREE}
I took one of the
boys hoodies and lined it up with the bottom of the shirt like so...
Then I decided to
scoot it up a bit because I wasn't sure how much I would need to go around his
neck {it is a REALLY good thing I did that because I had just enough}
Then I traced it,
leaving my self about 1/2 and inch for seam allowance
even though I was using the existing seam at the bottom of the
shirt, I still left some space since a ninja hood has to be deep *wink*
I then cut out my hood, but it was still in one piece,
connected along the bottom where the side of the shirt was, so I snipped that as
well giving me 2 pieces.
Then I put the right sides together and sewed along the curved
line of the hood, leaving the bottom open as well as the front.
Then I clipped
little triangles out along my curve (make sure you don't snip your seam) so the
finished look is smoother
I flipped it around
and waited for my little ninja to come home so I could try it on him, and find
the best place to attach my snaps and mask.
OK, fine, I was too
impatient to wait and I guessed wrong and that is why there are two snaps
instead of one, patience is a virtue I need some help with!!
I added actual
snaps because I happen to have a snapper-thing-a-ma-do
but if you don't you can sew a button or use Velcro, just something for
closure.
Next I tried it on
my ninja again (for real this time) and measured where the mask should go on
both sides
Then I sewed the
mask on one side. using an L stitch
And added Velcro to
the other side so that the mask can be easily on or off since my 2 year old
tends to change his mind as often as my one year old changes her mood {that is
another post entirely}
I also made sure
that the soft part of the Velcro was on the hood (against his face) and the
rough part was on the mask.
Oh!! Where did I
get the mask you ask?
From here, the
extra part of the shirt, just a rectangle
And the seam of the
shirt is the top of the mask, the sides and the bottom tuck into the rest of the
hood.
AND we are
complete!
Look at my sweet
ninja!!!
The hubs was so
excited he wants me to make one for him too, I guess I will be trick or treating
with a bunch of Ninjas this year!!

So, that was last year...
This year we are all superheroes, it's gonna be AWESOME!
In Love,
